In addition to the training materials that cover the basic safety topics for construction work, various educational materials available here will enhance the learning experience on safety at work. These materials target different safety topics in the construction industry and have been developed using a plain language and a very user-friendly format. Educational materials include a series of fact sheets named “¡Protéjase!” (“Protect yourself!”), “Best & Safe Practices”, “Fatal Accidents”, and “Bright Ideas”. The video “Protecting our Health and Safety in Construction Work” features Hispanic construction workers talking about their perceptions of how safe are their workplaces and the different hazards they encounter everyday. This video could be shown at the beginning of the training session.

For the validation process of all these materials focus groups were conducted among Hispanic construction workers. Cultural and linguistic aspects of Hispanic workers were considered in the design and the developmental phases and various graphical and visual aids featuring Hispanic workers were incorporated into the materials. The end product is a unique set of materials that are useful and easy to be understood by the Hispanic worker.
